Healthcare in Indonesia: cost & waiting times

Single national insurer

BPJS Kesehatan runs the national health insurance scheme (JKN), which covers most of the population; members register with a primary care clinic (puskesmas or private clinic) that refers them on. Private hospital groups such as Siloam serve those paying privately, and Bali has clinics geared to tourists.

Emergency number: Ambulance 118 · Police 110 · Fire/Rescue 112

How residents get care

  1. Register with BPJS Kesehatan — Members choose a first-level facility (puskesmas or clinic).
  2. Primary care first — Your registered facility refers you to hospital specialists.
  3. Private hospitals — Book directly, paying privately or through private insurance.
  4. Emergencies — Call 118 for an ambulance (112 for general emergencies).

Official waiting-time source

Indonesia doesn't publish waiting times; private hospitals are quick.
